The search for new and fun things to do with your kids at home continues! None of use know how long this time at home will last, but we do know that we are alone together. In this time, we need to share resources and ways to add some fun and familiarity in our homes. What better way to add some magic into your home than with Disney? Just in time for our extra time at home, Disney Parks brings us Imagineering in a Box and also drawing lessons for your favorite characters. Keep reading to learn how Disney Parks are contributing to their local communities in this difficult time.
Imagineering in a Box
My teenage son has his heart set on becoming an Imagineer. I’ve shared in the past about our love for “The Imagineering Story” on Disney+. This series gave a behind the scenes look at life as an Imagineer. And my son and I were in LOVE! There were so many scenes and videos that we’ve never seen before. In fact, Imagineering never looked so amazing! Just in time for this extended time period at home, Disney and Khan Academy present Imagineering in a Box.
Check out this description from Disney Parks Blog:
Imagineering in a Box is a series of interactive lessons in theme park design and engineering, designed to give a behind-the-scenes peek into Imagineering’s development process. It combines 32 videos of actual Imagineers, real-world case studies, and lots of interactive activities to give you the opportunity to dream and design your very own theme park experience!
My son is taking this course very seriously! It gives him such a great way to explore his chosen career even more. This means even more to us during this time when we can’t visit Walt Disney World. Introduce it to your kids and see what magic they learn!
Draw with Disney at Home
Did you know you can also learn to draw your favorite Disney characters with a Disney animation artist? Several of my kids love to draw and they especially love using their iPads to be in their own “class.” With these sessions with a Disney animation artist, they will take you step by step to draw your favorite characters. We used to love the Animation Academy at Hollywood Studios and now love it at Animal Kingdom’s Conservation Station as well! When we can’t go to the Parks, these videos are a perfect way to connect.

Caring for Animals at the Parks
Even though Walt Disney World, including Disney’s Animal Kingdom, is closed to the public, thousands of animals are still receiving excellent care. There’s even a brand new member of the Animal Kingdom family to care for, which is a baby porcupine!
From Disney Parks Blog:
The baby, known as a porcupette, was born to mom, Peri, on Feb. 25. If you’ve seen the One Day at Disney documentary on Disney+, you may remember seeing Peri participate in an ultrasound with Disney veterinarian Dr. Natalie. And after a long-awaited arrival, the team is delighted to welcome this cutie to the Disney family. Here’s a closer look:
Isn’t that just the cutest? And you can follow along with Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of Disney’s Animals, Science, and Environment on Instagram for more coverage of Disney’s animals.
Disney Parks Give Back
We were all saddened by the need to close Disney Parks around the world. However, it’s possible for all of us to find the positives during this time. We all need to try even harder to focus on the good all around us. Disney Parks Blog is sharing how they are giving back to their local communities.
Read this from the Disney Parks Blog:
Since making the important decisions to close Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts through the end of the month, our focus has been on the well-being of our cast members, guests, families – and of course, local communities.
Today, Walt Disney World Resort cast members joined the Distribution Services team that oversees collection and delivery of donations to help the community and share surplus food inventory like fresh salads, greens and expertly cooked hot items with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
“These donations would not be possible without the dedication of cast members behind the scenes who collect, sort and distribute every item to ensure it’s delivered with the highest level of freshness, keeping food safety top of mind,” said Tajiana Ancora-Brown, director, External Affairs at Walt Disney World Resort. “We feel an immense sense of pride and excitement every time we see the Disney Harvest truck making deliveries in the community, and we’re so grateful for the team that makes these donations happen.”
We are always grateful to Walt Disney World for bringing so much joy and happiness to our lives. And even in this difficult time when we can’t physically be in Walt Disney World, we are thankful for the ways in which we can enjoy Disney at home.
